Kat stood alone with Lucast, who seemed ready, a swirling ball of water surrounding him. The chasm he had filled in places, allowing the molten warriors to cross slowly. He was positioned for a fight, but Kat did not think he would need to be. He had shown her how powerful she could be and that vision, oh that terrible vision, had given her an idea. She could feel a steadiness within her, a calm before the storm but this would be her storm. As she lifted her hand, clouds rumbled and roared above her. She could feel the particles of ice in the sky and the static charge between them. As she moved the clouds, the more they rubbed and the greater her control became. Thunder echoed above her and like a calling, the warriors advanced. Bright flashes suddenly lit up the landscape and Kat felt the hairs on her arms rise. The heavens were charged and with it, her feet lifted off the ground. She rose higher and higher, suspended by her power over the sky. She was lit by the last rays of a red sun as it set below the smoke cloud and then it vanished and all that could be seen were the sparks that shined around Kat’s body. This was the pinnacle of her excellence and as she struck her first enemy, she was the most beautiful thing in the world.

Not much is known about the worlds beyond our solar system, the worlds that until recently we did not know existed. Chance has allowed me to study in the great libraries of Ilmgral, to see its vast history that Earth has now become a part of. For that reason, I have created this story, to show you the long tapestry of events that would one day bring universal war to Earth. In this volume I cover the early years of the Ilma, from the creation of the universe to the most tragic event of those ancient years. From the libraries of Dragor, I have translated these tales, so that we may better understand the role that has come to us.

Foreword

This universe is just one in a long line of failed universes. In those before, beings beyond our comprehension played with the fabric of reality and manipulated the lives of those they created. Learning from their creations love, jealousy and eventually a hate that sparked wars between them until they ripped the universe apart and the cycle started again.

In Besan Gretan, the realm that is, Gadrika, God of life, hearing the echoes of those before him, decided to give select mortals the powers to level the playing field so that this universe could reach its chosen path.
The Ilma, so majestic in form and spirit, were chosen custodians of the universe but greed comes often to those already with power. Dark events drove them from their righteous path and the Graul, the servant race, were gifted powers so that the Ilma did not become tyrants in their toppling of the Gods.
Empires were split at this decision and the Ilma, now spread far across the stars, battled for dominion over the universe. Peace came at a heavy price and in that ruin, the Ilma sort for a chance to turn themselves back to a proper path. They sort for a new power, one not foretold by the Gods and in their search, they found Humanity. A love for mankind came swiftly to the Ilma, who saw in humanity the true custodians of the universe. Through experiments they tried to merge their DNA with ours, to give the powers bestowed upon them to the people of Earth. Then they departed, to allow Humanity to thrive and waited for any sign of their success…

From the Sublime to the ridiculous – scene 1 -3

FADE IN:

1. INT. DANIEL’S BEDROOM – DAY


Camera pans over a bed as the alarm sounds and DANIEL reaches over to turn it off. He swings his legs out of bed and checks his phone before reaching over and grabbing the remote. Turning on the TV. CHLOE stirs beside him.

Chloe
What is it?

Daniel
Elizabeth just messaged me, apparently, we are in the news again.

Chloe
Don’t worry about it. It will only stress you out.

Daniel
I’m already stressed out.

Daniel leans over and pecks Chloe on the cheek before standing up and walking out to the living room. Camera follows him as he turns on the TV in the lounge.

Reporter
The economy is set to show growth this quarter of 0.3% avoiding a recession that had been predicted by some financial experts… In other news the controversy surrounding Mark Wilson’s television adaptation of Beware the Dark desire doesn’t seem to be going away. Recently Mark Wilson’s comments have sparked outrage and condemnation by mental health groups who believe his works may have contributed to the death of Harry Brooker last week.

Daniel turns off the TV.

Daniel
Here we go.

2. INT. OFFICE FOYEY – DAY.

Daniel walks into the office and takes a second to breath. Suddenly SARAH appears with some artwork.

Sarah
Great, I was hoping to catch you before I went over to the studio, can you look at these for me?

Daniel
What are they?

Sarah
Set plans for two apartments and an office building. I need to make sure they co-ordinate with your scripts so we can set to work building them.

Daniel quickly scans them as Sarah leaves but he turns around to call her back.

Daniel
Sarah these are pilot scene’s, I’m working on episode two at the moment.

Sarah
Mark said you would look at them. Can you get that back to me today?

Daniel looks tired.

Daniel
Sure thing.


Daniel begins to walk towards the stairs as he scans the artwork but stops as ELIZABETH comes charging down the stairs. She stops in front of him.

Elizabeth
Just the writer I’ve been looking for.

Daniel
Really?

Elizabeth
Listen, I think I’ve found a way to keep the heat off our back but it means I’m going to be busy for part of the day. Do you mind doing an interview for me, it’s for a magazine? They’ve emailed me all the questions, I just need someone on the writing staff to do it.

Daniel
You want Louise, she is better at that sort of thing.

Elizabeth
I would but Louise is over with Beth working through some casting choices so it’s onto you.

Daniel
No worries.

Elizabeth walks passed him.

Elizabeth
I will email you the questions.

Daniel
Thank you.

Daniel continues to walk up to his office.

CUT TO:

INT. MARK’S OFFICE.


Daniel stops at Mark’s and peers in. Mark is sat at his desk working.

Daniel
Mark?

Mark looks up smiles and stands up. He grabs from his desk several sheets and walks over to hand them to Daniel.

Mark
I’ve just finished my notes for scene five and nine for episode two. How long till you can get them done?

Daniel shrugs.

Daniel
Friday.

Mark
I was more thinking Wednesday.

Daniel smiles.

Daniel
No problem.

Daniel turns to leave.

Daniel
Hey. Sarah just gave me set plans.

Mark
For the pilot?

Daniel
Yeah I thought we agreed that you were…

Mark
Elizabeth has cut everything from my schedule today and Sarah has the team in building the set. You don’t mind, do you?

Daniel pauses.

Daniel
Not at all.

Mark
Thanks.

Daniel leaves the office just as ANNIE walks in.

Daniel
Morning Annie.

Annie
Hey. You look terrible.

Daniel
Living the dream.

CUT TO:

INT. SCREEN WRITER’S OFFICE.

Daniel walks into his office and sits at his desk. His hands come up to rub at his face. Then he picks up the sheets and begins reading them. SOPHIE walks into shot and stands in the doorway.

Sophie
Daniel.

Daniel
Yeah?

Sophie
David wants to see you.

Daniel looks down.

Daniel
Yep.

Daniel stands up.

3. INT. DAVID’S OFFICE – DAY.

Daniel walks into David’s office. DAVID is stood by the long table.

Daniel
Hey, Sophie said you wanted to see me.

David
Everyone will be coming up in a minute, but I wanted to see you first. How are you coming on with those alternative scenes?

Daniel looks dejected.

Daniel
I’m getting there.

David
I wanted them three days ago.

Daniel
Yeah I know but it’s hard to work on something I don’t agree with.

David
We are in a rut of our own making and we need to find a way out of the hole the news has put us into.

Daniel
That’s fine but I only have so often to work on them. Now Mark’s letting me write episode two, he is expecting certain things completed in a reasonable amount of time. If I start missing my deadlines, he’s going to get suspicious and ask what else I’m working on.

David
Then you tell him that I’ve got you working out alternative scenes.

Daniel
Yeah using your name really doesn’t hold that much weight with Mark.

David looks at Daniel sternly.

David
By the end of tomorrow. I want options discussed at next week’s table reads. Hell, I wanted them for tomorrows but that will have to wait now.

Daniel
I swear David, I’m working on it.

There is a knock on the door and Sophie walks in.

Sophie
Everyone is here to see you.

David
Send them in.

Sophie disappears. Mark, LOUISE and Elizabeth walk in. Mark stops and looks at Daniel.

Mark
I was looking for you. Didn’t know you were already up here.

Daniel
Yeah, I had some stuff to show David.

Everyone sits down.

David
I called you all here since for the last week we have been in a bit of a PR meltdown and a lot of the more important issues are being swept aside to try and extinguish the fire. Every day that we are not filming loses us money.

Mark
(Coyly)
And we didn’t have much of that to begin with.


David points at Mark.

David
You need to get us filming.

Mark looks at Elizabeth.

Mark
I would but someone had me cancel my entire day for some unknown reason.

David

Liz?

Elizabeth
I think I have a solution to at least get the conversation back onto the show and away from the incident. Once I’ve got it all confirmed, I will come and let you know.

David
Alright then, Louise, Daniel. How are we getting on with Episode two?

Louise
Good, yeah really good.

Elizabeth
Don’t say it too loud or Mark will have to take it off of you.

Mark

You know what Liz?

Elizabeth gives him a warm smile.

David
Louise you are working with Beth today right?

Louise
Yeah. She has someone to play Rebecca I think.

Elizabeth
That’s great, we are looking for a press release to follow my plan for today. If we can announce tomorrow that we have our Rebecca, then that completely changes the news cycle in our favour.

David
And that helps how?

Beth
It shows we are closer to filming.

Elizabeth
For my office, the best thing we can do at this stage of the process is release casting information.

Mark
Louise, I need to know the moment Beth gives the go ahead.

David
For the table read?

Mark nods.

Mark
We want to film the pilot, why not get right to it?

There is a pause. Camera focusses on Daniel as he looks through some notes on his notepad.

David
Right then get to work.

Stand behind me.” Nicole ordered to the others. She had her hand raised, feeling into the rock beneath their feet. All around them were voids. The mountain side was full of deep crevices and caves. Suddenly she thrust her hand into the ground, and it was like she had cracked ice on a lake. The earth in front of her fell away and revealed a deep chasm, full now of tree and warrior alike. The warriors that remained yelled and Nicole stepped backwards, holding a hand that was clearly bruised.
Price leapt towards the fissure and charged at two enemies stood precariously close to its edge. He blocked a blow of the first while kicking out with his legs. It teetered and then fell. He was on the second warrior in an instant. His vine slicing at its legs. As he rounded back on it, two slices to its face sent the warrior falling into the chasm beneath.

Excerpt from vengeance of the Gods

With the initial structure conquered, Kat led the charge. One of the big brutes rounded on her, its swing she blocked with the rod in her right hand while the left went into the beast’s stomach. She laughed as it flew across the room, knocking over the machine gunner and buying the human soldiers a valuable reprieve.
Just two short minutes after the assault had started, only two Murka’s remained. The rest were dead, dying, or incapacitated. Some by the clever work of Price, others by David’s deadly precision and even a couple were crumpled by the force of Sam’s gift but most had been taken down by Kat and she eyed the other two viciously, “Ice.” She yelled.
Sam’s hands flew forward, and the cold metal floor began to shimmer with the thin covering of ice. Kat felt her feet lose balance, so she fell to her knee’s in a dive and allowed her momentum to carry her forward. The Murka’s tried to step toward her but their thick boots could find no grip and so they were falling as Kat approached. As she slid past, each felt the full force of one of her rods in the gut and the last two remaining Murka’s fell. Kat stopped herself against the far wall and with careful feet she stood up.

Character Profile – Krun Bitaran

Name: Krun Bitaran

First Appearance: The History of Ilmgral: Book One. The Sundering of the Two Moons		Power: Krun, son of Krim, is the Vassal of the forests and the creatures that live in them. Krun could move forests and called all manner of birds and beasts to him. From his power came the Krun-ilma, who live in the great forests of the world.

Appearance: Like the Krun-ilma, Krun’s skin carries earthy hints. He has no red scales but root like veins protrude from the skin around the arms and under the eyes. Evergreen leaves grew in his brown hair also.
Backstory: Krun was born in the kingdom of Scaraden but was ferreted away after the death of his mother. As he came into his lordship, he took his people into the great wood and formed their, the Krun-Ilma. Until his fathers spirit would call him to war. Story Excerpt: This great army crossed the sea and like his father, he was nearly unchallenged in the land of Scaraden, and the small host sent against them was swiftly swept aside. Soon the host came to the fortress of Agralita and many of the soldiers became sickened as they drank from the corrupted streams or ate the food of that land. All had fallen under Agral’s sickness and only the power of Mina kept those affected in the lands of the living.
Long the siege lasted and during it, Krun brought great trees that sucked the poison from the streams and lands, and the corpses of those trees decayed swiftly and gave fresh soil for the growing of many flowers that Mina cultivated.
Soon Agral’s power began to waver and the fear of him lessened and the doors of Agralita were opened. Krun came then to the chamber of a dark tower where his uncle lay in rest and from a scabbard, he drew a knife. Sharply the eyes of Agral opened and he thrust with his power, but it was weak and Krun was young, come now into full manhood and his power surrounded Agral.
“Yield.” Krun ordered, “And I may find mercy in my heart for the killing of my mother and father.”
Agral laughed, and the sound was sickeningly seductive, “Mercy.” He spat, “You are like your father, weak, destined to stay in the line painted for you by the Gods. The Ilma are to be a higher power, custodians of the universe, under no dominion of the Gods.”
Like a cornered animal Agral struck but the blade he had concealed, caught meekly in Krun’s armour of thick bark, “You have no power now that can overcome that of Gadrika’s.” Krun said in a deep and commanding voice, “Now Kneel.”
Then Agral knelt and in his bow, he revealed that he was garbed in thick chain mail, even while he slept and at his waist was a sword hilt, but the blade had been broken from it. Krun then drew his own blade and anger overcame his sense, but his hand was stayed by a deep voice.
